4-H FAMILY FUN FEST, Saturday, November 8th - FREE

4-H FAMILY FUN FEST, Saturday, November 8th - FREE

Families are invited to attend this year's Arapahoe County 4-H Fall Fest from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds, 25690 E. Quincy Ave, Aurora (just east of E-470). Children, ages 5-18, will enjoy an afternoon getting up close and personal with farm animals and horses, playing chef with culinary activities, and taking notes at the horsemanship skills workshop conducted by Rich Scott, Vision of Unity Horsemanship. Attendance is FREE and there will be door prizes and refreshments. "4-H creates a supportive environment where youth are able to reach their fullest potential," said Larry Hooker, 4-H Extension Agent. "Our Fall Fest invites families from all over Arapahoe County to experience the fun and excitement of 4-H and perhaps learn something new."

4-H caters to both urban and rural families and with a plethora of projects to choose from, there’s something for everyone. The program's goal is to assist parents in raising children who are healthy, successful adults by partnering with volunteer leaders who organize and conduct hands-on educational experiences.

Whether it's raising animals, clothing design, nutrition or model rockets, youth participating in 4-H learn valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership and the value of communication. Sample the fun at the 4-H Fall Fest and take the opportunity to speak with leaders or members about their projects to learn more. For more information, contact Larry Hooker at 303-738-7940 or visit www.arapahoeextension.org.

Important Community Meeting About New Park

Important Community Meeting About Park Planned for Our Saddle Rock Community:  Thursday, November 6th, 6:30pm at Liberty Middle School

GREAT NEWS!  The long awaited Saddle Rock Community Park near the intersection of Arapahoe and Gartrell is now in the planning stage.  Planners would like input from community members regarding this park.  Please plan to attend the scheduled meeting to give your input regarding this park.    Meeting details are below and an attachment is available for printing at the end of this article.

Neighborhood input is important and welcomed to help make this new park a great addition to our neighborhood.

Please see the comments from Peter Payne, Saddle Rock HOA Board Member and resident of Saddle Rock's Cottages Neighborhood:  "You may be surprised to hear that our long awaited park has the funds allocated to it after at least seven years of waiting. The new park is located adjacent to the regional trail, which follows Piney Creek, and can be accessed  from the trail, or by the small road (Ponderosa Trail South), and trail south of the traffic lights on Arapahoe Rd. It is also accessed from Davies Drive on the North side of the Star Pass development. Davies Drive can be accessed from Tibet Way off Easter.

If anyone wants to have input into what goes into the park, they should attend the public meeting  referred to on the attached flyer, and voice their wishes. Of course it does not follow that the available funds will go to anything too exotic, but obviously the City of Aurora's  Parks and Open Spaces planners will provide what they think we want, if we don't ask.

Based upon what I have seen in the planning, (and subsequent construction, which is on going at this time) of a much larger large park, between the E470 and Aurora Parkway, between Safeway and the Police Station, (the site of the original YMCA/FRAHA building that was discontinued for lack of funds), the City Planners listened and implemented many of the requests made at several meetings at Tallyn's Reach Club House, just like this one. The attendees at those meetings from both Tallyn's Reach and Heritage Eagle Bend got them all sorts of very nice features, including wet - land board walks; a water play area for kids; horse shoe throwing areas for the seniors; and soccer pitches and basket ball courts, for the more agile, to name just a few of those features. Come to our meeting with a wish list - don't be disappointed with the outcome if you did not bother to come to ask! Be aware that this park is smaller than the one I have just described so this clearly puts limits on the possibilities but don't be frightened to ask!.

Please call, or e-mail me, with your thoughts in advance,  or to anyone else you know on the Boards of Saddle Rock South or East, so that we come more like a cohesive group.

My phone number is 720 -870 - 9197, and my e-mail is PeterandSheila1@Juno.com. Since I have only a few e-mail addresses please pass this on to your friends and neighbors - the more interest we show the more we will get!

Regards Peter Payne"
